Tour Introduction

Discover the diverse landscapes, cultures and flavours of Vietnam on a 15-day journey from the historic capital of Hanoi to the mountains of Sapa, the limestone seascape of Halong Bay and the imperial heritage of Central Vietnam. Travel through traditional villages, royal landmarks, peaceful countryside and vibrant cities, while experiencing Vietnam through local food, crafts, waterways and everyday life. From overnight train journeys and a night on Halong Bay to cycling in Hue, lantern traditions in Hoi An and the waterways of the Mekong Delta, this journey offers a rich introduction to the many faces of Vietnam.

ITINERARY

  • Day 1 HANOI ARRIVAL
    Upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, meet your English-speaking guide and private driver and transfer to your hotel in Hanoi. Take time to settle in and relax after your flight, with the remainder of the day free to recover from your journey or begin exploring the neighbourhood around your hotel at your own pace.   • Day 2 HANOI CITY TOUR & WATER PUPPET SHOW – OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO LAO CAI
    After breakfast, begin your exploration of Hanoi, discovering the capital’s historic landmarks and cultural heritage. Visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex, including the traditional stilt house and One Pillar Pagoda, before continuing to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university and one of the city’s most important historical sites. After lunch, explore the atmospheric Old Quarter, where narrow streets, traditional shop houses and bustling local life reveal the everyday character of the capital. In the evening, enjoy a traditional water puppet performance, an art form closely associated with the culture of northern Vietnam, followed by dinner. Later, transfer to Hanoi Railway Station and board the overnight train to Lao Cai, travelling towards the mountains of Sapa.   • Day 3 LAO CAI – SAPA – MUONG HOA VALLEY – LAO CHAI & TA VAN
    Arrive in Lao Cai early in the morning and transfer uphill to Sapa, where you will have breakfast and time to freshen up. Continue into the spectacular Muong Hoa Valley, one of northern Vietnam’s most scenic landscapes, characterised by terraced rice fields, mountain streams and traditional villages. Begin a gentle trekking experience through Lao Chai and Ta Van, meeting local ethnic communities and gaining an insight into their traditional way of life, agricultural practices and handicrafts. Walk along scenic village paths surrounded by terraced fields and the Hoang Lien Son mountain range before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant. Spend the remainder of the afternoon relaxing or exploring Sapa town at your own pace. Overnight in Sapa.   • Day 4 FANSIPAN – CAT CAT VILLAGE – OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO HANOI
    After breakfast, head towards Fansipan, Vietnam’s highest mountain and known as the “Roof of Indochina”. Take the scenic cable car high above the Muong Hoa Valley, enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, forests and terraced landscapes before reaching the upper station. Explore the summit area and surrounding mountain complex, taking in the panoramic scenery when weather conditions allow. After descending, continue to Cat Cat Village, a traditional Hmong settlement surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, where you can discover local houses, handicrafts and aspects of traditional village life. Enjoy lunch before returning to Sapa and transferring to Lao Cai Railway Station for your overnight train journey back to Hanoi.   • Day 5 HANOI – HALONG BAY – SUNG SOT CAVE & TITOV ISLAND
    Arrive in Hanoi early in the morning and transfer to Halong Bay, travelling through the countryside of northern Vietnam. Upon arrival at the harbour, board your overnight cruise and enjoy lunch as the vessel begins its journey through the spectacular limestone karst landscape. In the afternoon, explore Sung Sot Cave, one of the bay’s most impressive natural formations, with dramatic chambers filled with fascinating rock formations. Continue to Titov Island, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim or climb to the viewpoint for panoramic views across the surrounding islands and emerald waters. Return to the cruise and relax as the sun sets over the bay before enjoying dinner onboard. Spend the evening at leisure, surrounded by the peaceful scenery of Halong Bay.   • Day 6 HALONG BAY – LUON CAVE – HANOI

After breakfast, continue exploring the bay and visit Luon Cave, a peaceful lagoon surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, reached by traditional bamboo boat or kayak depending on the cruise itinerary. Enjoy brunch onboard as the vessel gradually makes its way back towards the harbour, passing through some of the bay’s most scenic landscapes. Disembark around midday and transfer back to Hanoi by shuttle bus. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.   • Day 7 HANOI CITY TOUR – FLIGHT TO HUE

Enjoy some free time for a coffee or casual exploration before transferring to the airport for your flight to Hue. Upon arrival, meet your local guide and driver and transfer to your hotel. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing or taking an evening stroll along the Perfume River. Continue to the Thien Mu Pagoda, one of Hue’s most recognisable spiritual landmarks overlooking the Perfume River, before discovering one of the city’s impressive royal tombs and learning about the emperors and traditions of the Nguyen Dynasty. Enjoy a special royal-style lunch, inspired by the refined culinary traditions of the former imperial court and presented with an emphasis on Hue’s distinctive flavours. Cycle through the local landscape and discover a more intimate side of Hue before continuing towards Tam Giang Lagoon, one of Southeast Asia’s largest lagoon systems. Explore the tunnels and surrounding site to learn about the ingenious construction, daily life and survival strategies of the communities who lived and operated underground. Return to Ho Chi Minh City for lunch before continuing with a half-day city exploration, visiting selected landmarks and neighbourhoods that reveal the contrasting layers of old and modern Saigon. Depending on time and interests, continue through the colonial quarter, local markets or lesser-known streets before returning to your hotel in the late afternoon.   • Day 15 HO CHI MINH CITY – DEPARTURE

Your private driver will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to Tan Son Nhat International Airport for your onward flight, bringing your 15-day journey through Vietnam to an end.
