Follow an unusual local trail along Hanoi’s railway tracks, where homes, small businesses and everyday activities unfold remarkably close to the railway line. Continue to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, founded in 1070, before stopping for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex, including Ba Dinh Square and the modest stilt house where Ho Chi Minh lived and worked, offering an insight into an important period of Vietnam’s modern history. Continue to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology to discover the rich cultural diversity of the country’s 54 ethnic groups, before enjoying a traditional Water Puppetry performance, a distinctive art form originating in northern Vietnam.
